Most students take one or two VCE Science subjects alongside their other studies. Taking two sciences is common for students pursuing medicine, engineering, or health science pathways. However, it is more important to achieve strong study scores in fewer subjects than to spread effort too thinly across multiple sciences.

Early in Year 11 (Units 1 and 2) is ideal to build strong foundational knowledge before the intensified pace of Units 3 and 4.
